Slip-of-the-Tongue-O-Rama

My love-hate relationship with Slip of the Tongue is that, when the director Karen Lum first approached me about the project, I couldn't find time to record a new version to replace my squeaky-ass babbling 19-year-old voice. The performance from the recording hadn't even broken me into the next round at the slam I where I had debuted it that night, and I was already excluding the poem from my show sets at the time. So when it got turned into a film it was like someone dropped a single of me singing in the shower.

But the film itself was done really well, and a lot of people have gotten something nice from it so all's goooood. It's just sometimes I get paranoid that that poem's going to be my one-hit wonder. Like my "Who Let the Dogs Out." But even though I cringe when I hear my voice in that film, and Karen's seen the thing so many times she goes into convulsions every time she sees a bus stop, we're both ridiculously thankful for the impact it's made on folks.

Anyway, yesterday was Karen's birthday and conveniently the Stanford student was in Stanford during our Stanford show! Whoooodathunkittt? I got her a pretty gangsta cake from Oakland Chinatown. And in celebration of the Karen Lum a.k.a. "Hey you're the girl at the bus stop in that ethnic makeup poem!", here for you is a Slip-of-the-Tongue-O-Rama fo yo ass.
