Cube is so confused. The same confusion that caused the feud with Common. He doesn't understand that gangsta rap only spreads violence into remote areas of the planet and enslaves the retarded, teenage, middle-class masses.
hmm that's an interesting way to look at it. i'm pretty sure cube is addressing the fact that people like imus excused themselves for their actions claiming that our society has deteriorated as a direct result of rap. so him saying "gangsta rap made me do it" has a tinge of irony to it.
i would so love to agree with that but i'm not too fond of cube's constant misogynistic, communistic, materialistic, and perverted verses. though, i must admit, i love listening to it was a good day every now and then. all about rap and speaking out, but i find it hard to believe cube still rolls with bitches now that he's got kids dot dot dot
point well taken. i think there's definitely confusion on his part, as there are with a lot of rappers (especially male rappers). i think in terms of "gangsta rap only spreads violence..." it's a lot to generalize an entire genre, even gangsta rap, as only having a negative or positive effect. in many ways, NWA for example existed as a source of empowerment for people who at the time didn't have anyone else voicing their experiences in the big media. even though it may have evolved into a form of music that glorifies hoodlife, it derived from efforts that were meant to expose its urgency to the general public.
